Product Change Notification (PCN): Impinj R700 PCBA revision and firmware v8.1.7 update

Impinj would like to inform you about upcoming revisions to the Impinj R700 RAIN RFID reader.

Impinj has updated the PCBA assembly for all models of the Impinj R700 reader due to supply shortages of a vendor component. The new revisions retain all specifications included in previous Impinj R700 versions. The new Impinj R700 PCBA will only support Impinj R700 firmware version 8.1.7 and newer and will ship with version 8.1.7 firmware installed. Customers should begin receiving Impinj R700 readers with the updated PCBA and v. 8.1.7 firmware beginning in late Q3 2023.

Impinj has made the new R700 firmware version 8.1.7 immediately available for download from the Impinj Support Portal. The accompanying instructions will facilitate existing deployment updates in preparation for the arrival of new units. All existing versions of the Impinj R700 reader support firmware version 8.1.7.

Updated reader developer tool and testing software downloads

Other newly available downloads include: 

  • Version 11.4 of the Impinj Octane™ LTK and version 4.2 of the Impinj Octane™ SDK which support .NET version 6
  • Impinj ItemTest software used for evaluating the functionality and performance of Impinj readers and gateways has been updated to version 2.9. Version 2.9 is compatible with Microsoft .NET version 6, while ItemTest version 2.8 requires .NET version 5.
