A new firmware version is available now for Impinj R700 series RAIN RFID readers, adding support for Impinj Gen2X — an enhancement to the RAIN radio standard that speeds inventory counts, increases tag read range, declutters the environment, protects consumers, inhibits tag and item counterfeiting, and reduces solution cost.

Firmware version 8.4 also enhances device security to meet the needs of enterprises and adds functionality to the Impinj IoT Device Interface that improves ease of use. Impinj has also released new versions of the Impinj Octane SDK, LTK, and ETK on the Impinj support portal

Impinj IoT Device Interface updates that improve ease of use:
- Added ability to encode tag memory via the IoT Device Interface
- Added ability to view General Purpose Input (GPI) events via IoT Device Interface data streams
Security enhancements that meet enterprise needs:
- Updated Linux kernel to 5.10.223
- Updated open-source libraries to address common vulnerabilities and exploits
