IMPORTANT
We have migrated the Impinj wafer map distribution system from FTP to SFTP. Please note the key changes below:
- New Server Address: sftp.impinj.com (replaces ftp.impinj.com)
- Connection Protocol: SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol)
- Connection Port: 22 (Standard SFTP port)
- Access: New usernames and passwords will be provided to all customers
These changes enhance the security of our wafer map file transfer process. Over the coming months, all previous connection methods will be retired.
Introduction
Impinj sells endpoint products, such as the Impinj M700 series and M800 series, in wafer format. In addition to shipping the physical wafer to our customers, we provide an electronic "wafer map" for each wafer sold. The wafer map is utilized during the manufacturing process.
This article guides tag chip manufacturers in accessing wafer maps for Impinj endpoint products using FileZilla as an SFTP client. Other compatible SFTP clients may be used; please see the full list in the FAQ section below.
Connecting with FileZilla, our preferred client
FileZilla is a free, open-source File Transfer Protocol (FTP) client that enables users to transfer files between local and remote servers. It supports the SFTP protocol on Windows, macOS, and Linux and offers a user-friendly interface with drag-and-drop functionality and secure file transfer capabilities.
Here is how you can obtain and configure it to retrieve your electronic files:
- Download and install the latest version of FileZilla from the official website (free from https://filezilla-project.org/download.php) or the corresponding operating system “App Store” (for a fee.)
- Windows OS: The setup executable for Windows OS will install the application and create the desired start menu entry and desktop shortcut to launch the application.
- MacOS: Ensure that you select the download option for the free version, which will be provided as a compressed folder. Double-click the folder to extract the FileZilla.app file. We recommend dragging this file to the "Applications" folder so you can easily launch it from the Launchpad.
- Configure FileZilla to connect to the Impinj endpoint (sftp.impinj.com)
- Protocol: SFTP - SSH File Transfer Protocol
- Host: sftp.impinj.com
- Port: 22
- Logon Type: Normal
- User: [From shipment notification email] : Note that all usernames start with sftpimpinj. followed by a short alias (the dot must separate the username.)
- Password: [From password notification email] : Note that you will receive a custom link to the pwpush.com service to retrieve your password. The password may be saved within FileZilla; See FAQ for more details.
- Open FileZilla
- Go to File > Site Manager
- Click 'New site' and name it (e.g., 'Impinj SFTP')
- Configure settings:
- Click ‘OK’ to save these settings
- Click 'Connect'
- Verify and Accept Host Key
- When you connect, you will be prompted to verify the server's host key. You must accept the key to continue.
- You may select to trust this key to avoid seeing this dialog every time you connect. The key is an additional validation that you are connecting with our intended service.
- See the full list of our valid keys in our FAQ Section below.
Navigating to Your Wafer Maps
After successfully connecting:
- You will see the directory structure corresponding to your purchase orders.
- Navigate through folders using the PO number from your shipment notification email.
- Tip: To quickly narrow down the list of folders displayed, you can open the Quick Search dialog by pressing Ctrl-F on Windows or Command-F on MacOS.
- To access individual files, open the folder corresponding to the specific shipment date. Alternatively, you can download the entire folder by selecting the "Download" option from the right-click menu or by dragging and dropping the folder onto your computer.
- Wafer map files are available in the following formats: BMP, EUMEL, IBIS, and UMC.
- The TID lists for all wafers is in the TID_Waferlists.zip file.
Troubleshooting Tips
- Make sure that you are configuring the connection to use “SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol)”. Note that any other FTP protocol will no longer work against sftp.impinj.com.
- Ensure you're using the username and password exactly as shown in your shipment notification email.
- The username should start with sftpimpinj.
- The password will be 32 characters in length.
- Verify that your network allows outbound connections on port 22. You may need to engage with your IT department to validate this.
- Confirm that you are using FileZilla version 3.53.0 or newer.
- If you are utilizing a different SFTP client, please consult the FAQ for a comprehensive list of compatible clients as well as those that are known to be incompatible.
- Inform your IT team of these protocol and port changes as they may need to assist to install the client on your computers, configure network equipment to allow this standard protocol, or update systems if automation is to be reconfigured.

FAQ
I cannot get to sftp.impinj.com using my web browser.
To enhance security and service quality, we are concentrating our efforts on deploying and supporting a unified protocol for delivering electronic files: the Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP). As a result, our new solution does NOT feature a web browser interface and necessitates the use of an SFTP client for file retrieval.
I get an error when browsing to http://sftp.impinj.com/ or https://sftp.impinj.com
Our new wafer maps distribution solution does not expose a web browser interface.
You may therefore see InvalidUri and other similar XML error pages when browsing to this address. Please use an SFTP client to retrieve all digital materials associated with your wafers.
How will I receive my username and password?
Your username will always be provided within PO shipment emails.
You will receive your password at the time of account creation, or you may request assistance from our support team if you misplaced it. All passwords will be shared with you via custom links to pwpush.com. You must copy the password and safeguard it as these links are temporary and are automatically deleted. We have decided to transact passwords in this manner as a best practice to provide increased security.
Sample password retrieval workflow:
- You will receive a link from Impinj that looks similar to https://pwpush.com/p/nkumetbqoj0pwvdh0w/r (note that this one is not active)
- Open this link in your web browser
- Click on the “Click here to Proceed” link if one is shown
- Click on “Copy to Clipboard”
- Paste the copied text into your preferred password manager and your SFTP client. As noted in the FAQ, most SFTP clients allow you to save passwords for repeated use.
- You may go back to your pwpush link and delete the password immediately from the service.
How do I save the connection password on FileZilla?
FileZilla allows you to set whether you want to save connection passwords. You may toggle the default which is not to save them through the application settings menu (access it via Edit \ Settings on Windows and FileZilla \ Settings on macOS). Password saving behavior is controlled under the Interface \ Passwords page.
We recommend that you lock your computer and use file encryption, or use a master password within FileZilla, to safeguard your connection.
Passwords are very long, can we get a shorter more user friendly password?
Our new system’s passwords are quite long by design to ensure data security and account security. We share them with you using pwpush.com to safeguard them in transit.
We suggest that you use copy paste from the pwpush.com link to retrieve the password and consider saving the password within your SFTP client’s connection settings - see how above.
Reach out to the Impinj support team if you need to reset your password.
FileZilla shows “FATAL ERROR: Connection reset by peer”
When a connection with our service is left idle for 2 minutes, you may encounter “FATAL ERROR: Connection reset by peer” within your connection status window. This is expected and will not interfere with your downloads or folder browsing. You may resume browsing by double clicking any folder within the remote site, or refreshing the connection.
Please contact the Impinj support team if you encounter problems downloading files.
Unknown host key when connecting to sftp.impinj.com
Host keys are sent from the server to the client to verify that you are connecting to a trusted endpoint. When you establish a connection, you should see a window similar to the one below. You have the option to trust this key, which will prevent it from appearing each time you connect.
Our SFTP solution is built atop a distributed system to ensure maximum uptime. As a result it may return a number of different host keys, all valid. You may see another host key even if you have selected to trust one; this may be the result of a key rotation or other service maintenance event.
The full list is published and kept up to date here. Look for keys within the “West US 2” Region.
